Auxiliary Safety Officer

We are seeking dependable, highly professional Auxiliary Safety Officers to support Gwinnett County Public Schools. This role is essential to maintaining safe, secure, and welcoming school environments.

Auxiliary Safety Officers are activated as needed—often same day—when coverage gaps occur. High attendance and reliability are critical, VPSA requires a strong backup support team.

Responsibilities

Auxiliary Safety Officers must be able to perform all standard duties of an on-site school safety officer, including:

• Monitoring school grounds and maintaining a visible safety presence.
• Supporting arrival/dismissal procedures and hallway transitions.
• Observing student behavior and reporting concerns to school leadership.
• Responding to incidents and following established school safety protocols.
• Maintaining strong communication with administrators, teachers, and security leadership.
• Completing school-specific training for both elementary and middle school settings.
• Operate, monitor, and properly report results from the metal detection / screening system (training provided).
• Remaining stationed at an assigned campus for the entirety of the shift.

Requirements

• Must be reliable, punctual, and able to accept same-day and scheduled assignments.
• Ability to work at multiple Gwinnett County campuses as needed.
• Experience in security, public safety, or school safety preferred.
• Must complete required GCPS school safety training.
• Must submit a recent background check from your local police department.
• Professional conduct, strong communication skills, and a commitment to student and staff safety.
• Ability to work independently and remain alert during all duties.
