The Pratt & Whitney Columbus Engine Center is searching for a Powerplant Engineer to provide Engineering support to the Operations and Customer Service Departments for the assembly, disassembly, and repair of GTF commercial engines. The person in this role is the primary Engineering interface to the End-User / Customer and works closely with the Customer Service Managers to ensure all technical issues are resolved during a shop visit.

In this role you will also support other functions within the Engine Center to include Materials, Quality, and Customer Management when routine technical questions and issues that may arise in the day-to-day function of the Engine Center. Additional tasks within the Operations Engineering support include authoring aircraft engine repair work scopes and performing a technical advisory role in the dis-assembly, repair, assembly, and testing of the GTF product line.

What You Will Do:

  • Receive and understand the Shop Maintenance Instructions (SMI) document for each shop visit assigned.
  • Author/load aircraft engine repair work scopes into SAP.
  • Provide timely responses to Customer and Engineering technical Questions (IPFs).
  • Work with Process/Production Engineers in executing work scopes and work instructions for engine repairs. (Service Bulletins, advisories, performance requirements and modification requirements)
  • Do appropriate research, supporting and advising other functional areas regarding technical issues related to quality, operations processes, materials and customer support.
  • Seek opportunities to reduce costs and increase quality and efficiency through the use of new materials, processes or technology.
  • Assist with implementation of new materials, processes, tools or technology.
  • Assist in training mechanics, inspectors and others related to various technical issues.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the EH&S and continuous improvement programs by complying with all policies and procedures, completing all required training, and supporting all applicable committee activities.
  • Participate in failure investigations and Problem resolution boards.
  • Be a source of in-depth technical knowledge on the repair and test of the GTF engine.
  • Manage the Shop Visit to ensure all Gate requirements are met in accordance with the Operations Network cadence.
  • Ensure each shop visit's workscope is generated in accordance with applicable Engine Maintenance Plan (EMP) / Customized Engine Maintenance Plan (CEMP) documents.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or other STEM field of study and 2 years prior experience to include manufacturing operations or production engineering or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 2 years' experience as listed above.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in STEM field; Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering fields preferred.
  • Engineering experience in Systems, Test, Validation or Process Development
  • Experience within Disassembly, Assembly and Test (DAT) or Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) environments supporting aircraft engines or related products.
  • Component repair utilizing complex machining, particularly in an FAA Repair Station MRO environment.
  • Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 145 as it pertains to repair station Quality requirements.
  • Experience interpreting technical data, engine manuals and blueprints.
  • LEAN, Continuous Improvement, and/or CORE, ACE, Six-Sigma training and experience.
  • Experience working with Solumina MES, SAP ERP, and MS Office Suite.
  • Effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.
