Columbus Consolidated Government is seeking a dedicated firefighter to join their team. This position offers a competitive salary range of $42,925.00 - $69,719.29 annually and is located in Columbus, GA. The job type is full-time regular.

The primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Conduct salvage and overhaul operations to protect property.
  • Identify and contain hazardous materials safely.
  • Improve department operations through continuous effort.
  • Inspect, inventory, and maintain apparatus and equipment.
  • Interact with supervisors and the public effectively.
  • Maintain and expand job knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Perform emergency medical services and first aid.
  • Execute high-rise rescue and firefighting operations.
  • Perform various hose operations.
  • Perform industrial rescue and firefighting operations.
  • Perform routine station chores.
  • Perform structural firefighting operations.
  • Protect exposures to fire or other dangers.
  • Report for duty as assigned.
  • Respond to non-emergency calls.
  • Respond to various emergency situations.
  • Search for and rescue victims.
  • Suppress fire at the scene of an emergency.

Minimum educational and training requirements include knowledge and competency associated with specialized training in the occupational field, basic skills typically associated with a high school education, sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, and ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act.

Physical requirements include standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping; frequently lifting light and heavy objects; climbing ladders; using tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity; and distinguishing between shades of color. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Minimum requirements include being at least 18 years of age, a United States citizen, not having been convicted of a misdemeanor within three years, successfully passing both the background check and physical examination, having visual acuity, being of sound physical and mental health, successfully completing the Candidate Physical Apptitude Test (CPAT), and not having been convicted of a felony.
