On behalf of our client (Georgia Department of Transportation), ResourceTek is accepting applications for an Aviation Planner I. This position is located in Columbus, GA. working under contract to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Intermodal Division-Aviation Programs. This position will report directly to and serve as an assistant to the Aviation Planning Manager in administering all planning elements associated with the State's Air Transportation System.

Our client is seeking a self-starting aviation planner who is customer-oriented, able to work under minimum supervision, and driven to complete airport system planning functions at a state level. The selected candidate will assist in reviews, assessments, planning, analyzing, and maintaining a Statewide Aviation System Plan. The planner would participate in studies related to statewide airport/aviation needs to include system planning, airport master planning, airport layout plans, air service, pavement, and economic impact studies. In addition, the planner will develop relationships with airport sponsors, consultants, state, and federal agencies. Further responsibilities include assisting in airport state licensing programs, planning contracts, airspace safety evaluation, creation of airport directory and aeronautical charts, revenue use policy monitoring, enforcing state and federal airport compliance, and other duties as assigned.

The planner will hold a Part 107 certificate for remote pilot UAS operations. If not in current possession of certificate, candidate must successfully obtain within 6 months of employment. The planner will assist the Intermodal Division and other GDOT divisions with UAS operations.

The ideal candidate for this position is an enthusiastic planning consulting professional with the desire to foster technical excellence and can provide day-to-day project support. This candidate will be an essential part of our growth strategy and must be willing to perform work both in the office as well as in the client's office in Columbus, GA. The position further requires approximately 25% travel with some overnight stays. Successful candidates will be required to submit to and pass a drug test and criminal background check. Basic knowledge of FAA planning and compliance guidance and requirements is highly desired.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development and maintenance of the Georgia Statewide Aviation System Plan (GSASP)
  • Provides technical assistance to airport sponsors in planning, reviewing and approving airport level planning studies. These studies include airport master plans, airport layout plans, air service studies, and other specialized planning studies such as airport obstruction surveys and environmental assessments. Assures all contracted studies meet department and federal requirements and guidelines.
  • Serves as a resource for communities seeking to establish, improve or expand their aviation operations. Works with communities to develop programs such as, Air Cargo, and other programs to improve the Georgia air transportation system.
  • Develops, compiles, and prepares the Georgia Airport Directory and Aeronautical Chart for distribution to the aviation community. Acquires all necessary technical data from various federal and state agencies and compiles data collected during airport inspections. Identifies, advertises, and contracts with firms for the update and printing of the Directory and Chart.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations regarding aviation planning, airport compliance and the air transportation industry and current trends and developments in the field. Assists with the issuance of Georgia Airport License for Open-to-the-Public Airports.
  • Performs functions related to the FAA Airport Compliance Program. In accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidance, set forth policy and provide basic guidance to ensure airport compliance with federal regulations.
  • Conducts UAS missions as a remote pilot
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in aviation management, Transportation Planning, or related field or
  • 1+ years' experience relevant profession in the aviation planning field and/or airport operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and focus on attention to detail

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of the air carrier/air transportation system planning. Experience with aviation planning and/or compliance related matters are desired. One year of experience in the aviation planning field.
  • Communicating effectively with clients and fosters a positive working relationship with the client.
