The SR400 Express Lanes Project is a transformative $4.6 billion infrastructure initiative led by SR400 Constructors, a 50/50 joint venture between Flatiron Dragados and ACCIONA. Commissioned by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and Georgia State Road Tollway Authority (SRTA), the project will add two 16-mile express lanes from Sandy Springs MARTA Station (Exit 5) to McFarland (Exit 12), enhancing mobility along one of Georgia's busiest corridors. With a peak workforce of over 500, the project also includes dedicated bus rapid transit stations and key bridge refurbishments. Construction is set to begin in late 2025, with substantial completion anticipated in 2031.
The Superintendent plays a critical role on the SR400 Express Lanes Project, a $4.6B federally funded heavy civil infrastructure project in metro Atlanta. This position is responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and supervising production crews and subcontractors for assigned portions of work. The Superintendent ensures compliance with Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) contract requirements, federal contractor labor standards (including Davis-Bacon and Related Acts), safety regulations, and project-specific specifications.
Job responsibilities include:
- Supervising daily project work activities, acting as the liaison between engineering, estimating, field operations, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with GDOT and SR400 Constructors standards.
- Planning and sequencing work methods, equipment, materials, and labor resources to meet production and safety requirements.
- Conducting daily and weekly work planning meetings with crews; documenting work progress and field notes using project-approved reporting systems.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, and project phasing plans; communicating work hazards and ensuring site-specific safety plans are followed.
- Coordinating with internal equipment teams, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure proper resources are in place to meet production and budget targets.
- Anticipating and mitigating schedule risks; providing technical recommendations for alternative work methods and constructability solutions.
- Ensuring compliance with federal wage and hour requirements, including certified payrolls, prevailing wage rules, and subcontractor compliance monitoring.
- Supporting and enforcing SR400 Constructors' Safety Program, GDOT requirements, and project-specific quality control plans.
- Supervising and evaluating craft employees and subcontractor crews, providing feedback, coaching, and training recommendations.
- Coordinating inspections, punch lists, and project closeout activities with project management and GDOT representatives.
- Upholding SR400 Constructors' values of safety, quality, integrity, and teamwork.
Required skills and competencies include:
- Direct supervision of craft workers, subcontractors, and foremen for assigned project scopes.
- Responsible for workforce planning, coaching, performance feedback, and compliance with company policies, GDOT specifications, and federal labor requirements.
Minimum qualifications include:
- 5+ years of heavy civil construction experience (DOT highway/bridge work preferred).
- 3+ years in construction management or supervisory role.
- Experience working on large-scale DOT or federally funded projects preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field a plus.
Certifications & licensing include:
- Valid Driver's License required.
- OSHA 30-Hour and/or GDOT safety certifications required or ability to obtain.
- Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification preferred.
- Familiarity with federal contractor compliance requirements (Davis-Bacon, EO 13706, etc.) highly desirable.
Knowledge, skills & abilities include:
- Strong leadership and communication skills, including bilingual (English/Spanish) ability preferred due to diverse workforce.
- Advanced knowledge of DOT construction practices, equipment operation, and site safety protocols.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Knowledge of prevailing wage requirements, labor compliance, and subcontractor oversight.
- Ability to identify risks, resolve field issues, and make effective decisions under pressure.
