CTE Health Science Teacher Job Description

POSITION TITLE: CTE Health Science Teacher

SUPERVISES: Directly supervises students assigned to his/her classes.

JOB GOAL: The Health Science teacher will facilitate career skills and prepare students for certifications through classroom instruction blended with work-based learning experiences. The Health Science teacher will follow the curriculum that is focused on academic foundation in addition to hand-on skills that are practiced in a learning lab or health care environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Possess valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate.

2. Proper endorsement in the appropriate teaching field.

3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board might find appropriate and acceptable.

4. Provide own or have access to appropriate transportation to meet job requirements.

REPORTS TO: Director of Career Tech

SALARY: To be determined commensurate with local salary matrix, credentials, and experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instruction:

  • Develop and implement a curriculum that aligns with state standards and industry requirements.
  • Deliver engaging and effective instruction in health science subjects, such as but not limited to medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, health care systems, and patient care.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs and accommodate different learning styles.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
Student Assessment:
  • Assess student performance regularly through assignments, exams, and practical assessments.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.
  • Evaluates the educational program and/or student progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievement.
Classroom Management:
  • Create a positive, safe, and productive learning environment.
  • Establish and enforce classroom rules and procedures.
  • Address student behavior issues promptly and effectively.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
Professional Development:
  • Stay current with developments in the health science field and incorporate new knowledge into teaching practices.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and industry partnerships.
Collaboration:
  • Work with colleagues, administrators, and industry partners to enhance the health science program.
  • Participate in school and district meetings and committees as required.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other stakeholders.
Program Management:
  • Manage classroom equipment, supplies, and resources.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Organize and supervise student activities, such as internships, clinical experiences, and field trips.
Student Support:
  • Advise and mentor students on academic and career goals.
  • Provide support for students preparing for certification exams and other industry credentials.
  • Encourage student participation in health science competitions and organizations.
  • To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible members of society.
  • Exhibits positive human relation skills.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians, colleagues, and community groups.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  1. Good knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials and equipment of instructional specialty to which assigned.
  2. Good knowledge of student growth and development applicable to the grade level assigned.
  3. Good knowledge of the school's program of studies related to mission, goals and organization.
  4. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
  5. Ability to plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
  6. Ability to move around the room in order to monitor student work and behavior.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents and peers.
  8. Skilled and effective in oral and written communication.
  9. Excellent human relations skills.
  10. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.
  11. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administration


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, and parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being or work output of other people.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
