What You Will Do:

  • Evaluate controlled isothermal forging and heat treat process excursions to acceptance criteria (metchems). This role works closely with Engineering Source Approval.
  • Assist in root cause investigations for process excursions, interfacing directly with press operators, heat treat operators, supervisors, manufacturing engineers, maintenance, and operations leadership.
  • Pull and analyze data (time, temperature, strain rate) for isothermal forge processes and heat treat processes.
  • Examine testing results for mechanical properties (creep, tensile, stress rupture) and non-destructive testing (grainsize, etch, fpi, sonic inspection).
  • Develop knowledge of alloy specifications and heat treat specifications. Gain understanding of the role materials and processes play.
  • Execute automated metchem project at forge presses. Responsibilities include defining data to be collected, align press data, standardizing data collection, developing and testing auto metchem algorithm, and HMI development.
  • Work to develop automated paretos of metchem causes to help identify top drivers. Partner with forge and heat treat process manufacturing engineers to work projects to improve process capability and reduce excursions.
  • Attend daily and weekly meetings with materials and operations to ensure prioritization aligns with production schedules and to report status.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, (material science, mechanical, manufacturing) or other closely related technical or physical science disciplines, combined with 8 or more years of relevant experience OR an advanced degree combined with 5 or more years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Masters Degree in Material Science Engineering
