BAS (Building Automation Systems) Technologist I
Location: Nationwide locations-Hybrid
Employment Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time
Compensation: $88,380 - $117,970 + bonus

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a BAS Technologist I to support technical delivery and development efforts within the Building Automation Systems team. This role is ideal for a subject matter expert in controls programming, system optimization, and energy solutions looking to drive meaningful impact on projects across various phases.

About the Role:
The BAS Technologist I will contribute technical expertise across project phases including design, construction, and retro-commissioning. The role involves advanced programming, troubleshooting, standards development, and integration support across a range of BAS platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

Retro-Commissioning:

  • Conduct site surveys and document existing facility conditions
  • Participate in client and subcontractor meetings; provide meeting notes and site observations
  • Calculate energy savings and minimum airflow in accordance with applicable codes (e.g., ASHRAE 170, 62.1)
  • Implement programming modifications for building automation systems
  • Complete project closeout documentation
Design & Pre-Construction:
  • Lead site surveys to determine scope requirements
  • Create design documents and specifications for BAS upgrades
  • Review submittals for accuracy and completeness
  • Perform QA/QC on design deliverables
Construction:
  • Prepare programming instructions for technicians and subcontractors
  • Conduct site visits to assess progress and quality
  • Troubleshoot control system issues and provide support to the implementation team
Metering:
  • Design and specify energy metering solutions
  • Troubleshoot metering installations
Controls Installation:
  • Integrate, program, and optimize control systems
  • Install hardware and software
  • Troubleshoot system installations and performance
Other Duties:
  • Identify process gaps and develop standards to improve project execution
  • Support and develop internal tools to enhance delivery
  • Prepare technical documentation and reports
  • Provide internal and external training
  • Contribute to project decisions and strategy execution with minimal supervision
Qualifications:

Required:
  • 5-7 years of experience in BAS programming and design
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Able to adapt and contribute in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Experience with BAS platforms such as Siemens, JCI, Honeywell, Trane, StruxureWare, and Tridium
  • Building automation controls design experience
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • Experience on healthcare or higher education construction projects
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
Travel:
  • 40-50% travel to job sites or office locations
Work Environment:
  • Mix of office and on-site environments
  • Includes climbing ladders/stairs, working in confined spaces, and exposure to outdoor elements
  • May require lifting/moving objects up to 100 lbs
