Perform on-the-job training in bricklaying. Transport bricks safely to the work area. Transport bricks or other materials safely to the scaffold where the mason is working. Mix grout according to protocol. Mix mortar according to protocol. Properly move grout and mortar to the worker area. Precisely cut the bricks that are needed for corners. Accurately cut bricks for arches. Accurately cut bricks for complex patterns. Prepare surfaces before beginning work according to plans. Lay blocks in accordance with blueprints, plans, or drawings. Lay bricks in accordance with blueprints, plans, or drawings. Assist with the preparation of concrete and mortar. Help the mason to lay stones, bricks, blocks, and several other materials to form structures. Ensure surfaces are prepared before beginning work. Mold expansion joints with the use of the necessary tools, such as edging tools, jointers, and/or straightedge. Mold edges with the use of the necessary tools, such as edging tools, jointers, and/or straightedge. Make sure the grout mixing or cements consistency is accurate and move it to the work area. Place the required tools in proper area needed for a job or project. Ensure tools are ready, well-kept, and are in working condition during and after the job. Learn to properly and safely use tools such as (but not limited to): shovels, saws, and mixer. Be willing to use new equipment and tools as required. Communicate with Superintendent, Foreman, and Project Managers. Assist co-workers and upper management with the preparation of the work area. Learn how to safely and properly operate current equipment. After being properly trained, assist in the training of lower levels as requested and assigned. Learn steps and procedures to assist with preparing the work area. Work closely with Masons to learn to spread mortar and lay brick and block. Clean bricks according to proper procedure. Learn and erect scaffolds to safely hold and secure workers and tools as work is being completed. Clean each jobsite. Be willing to work in all types of weather and environments: loud, noisy, cold, hot, rain, close quarters, raised heights, etc. Learn and be able to lift at least 50 lbs. Learn and be able to perform physically demanding tasks. Learn and pay close attention to detail. Be a team player and exemplify good communication and interpersonal skills. Learn and apply basic math skills for calculating measurements and quantities. Maintain reliable transportation to arrive to worksites on time. Bring personal tape measure, hammer and construction pen to work daily. Learn leadership skills to apply for Laborer Level 1 and higher for higher pay and more responsibilities. Learn and obey all CandC Masonry rules, regulations, and protocols. Be willing to cross-train and learn new skills as the industry changes. Perform other job-related duties as requested.
