SUMMARY: Install and change-out water meters. Test small and large meters. Perform leak detection activities to support overall water loss control program. Enters customer data and meter reading information into handheld device and computerized maintenance software. Connects and disconnects water service, checks and repairs meter leaks, performs pressure checks, performs maintenance on meter boxes and meter lids and install and repair automatic meter reading equipment. Ensures meters are registering properly and corrects meters that are stopped, backwards, and water being used without being recorded by the meter. Performs meter reading activities via automatic meter reading equipment and/or through handheld devices while walking or driving routes. Verifies meter readings on rotary, straight-read and automatic meter reading meters. Tactfully respond to customers' inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Position subject to rotating call to respond to after-hours customer request and emergency conditions. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Water Accountability Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Connects and disconnects water service.
- Repairs leaks, makes pressure checks and inspects services.
- Verifies meter readings on rotary and straight-read and automatic meter reading equipment.
- Reports to supervisor violations of the rules and regulations governing consumption and conditions that may necessitate a customer billing adjustment.
- Tactfully respond to customers' inquiries and complaints.
- Subject to on-call duty rotation.
- Read water consumption and records the volume used by residential and commercial customers.
- Walks or drives truck on established route and takes reading of meter dials and/or automatic meter reading equipment.
- Verifies readings to locate abnormal consumption and records reason for fluctuations.
- Change out meters and repair leaks as need.
- Repair/Replace meter boxes, tops and automatic reading equipment as needed.
- Related work orders and work as required.
- Troubleshoots and maintains AMR/AMI Connectivity.
- Downloads meter usage technical report and deciphers in information.
- Uses computerized meter equipment.
- Test small and large meters using testing bench equipment.
- Perform leak detection activities to support overall water loss control program.
- Other duties as assigned by the Water Accountability Manager to support the multiple programs within the department/division.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED is minimum requirement. Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. One year of maintenance experience preferred, experience working on meters or water distribution projects preferred. Good oral and written communications skills required. Basic computer skills including CIS Infinity required. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds required. Must be able to receive First Aid and CPR certifications within one year of employment. Ability to perform regular on-call duty required. Must be able to perform general manual labor in outdoor weather conditions. Good knowledge of water meter reading practices preferred. Ability to navigate throughout the service area using maps, landmarks, and physical addresses required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret operating and maintenance instructions, safety procedures, standard operating procedures, schematic drawings, etc. Ability to write reports, effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers or the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
