Under the supervision of the supervisor, welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as machine parts, plant equipment, mobile homes, motors and generators, according to layouts, blueprints or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment. Responsibilities include:

Welding metal parts together, using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.

Performing related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding, repairing broken or cracked parts, filling holes and increasing size of metal parts, positioning and clamping together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.

Locating and repairing cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch.

May perform repairs only and be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical association.

All other duties assigned.

Material and equipment directly used includes: various machine tools and measuring instruments.

Working environment includes prolonged standing at a maintenance table and periodic use of a solvent parts cleaning machine. Dirt, dust, grease, and oils are always present. There can be exposure to chemicals that may burn and irritate the skin and eyes if proper personal protective equipment is not worn. Failure to follow appropriate safety procedures could result in cuts, bruises, shocks, and strains. Must comply with OSHA, EPA, installation fire prevention regulations and published company work rules. May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical activities include standing, climbing, bending, and occasionally working in cramped and awkward positions. Employee stands for long periods. Frequently lifts equipment weighing 25 pounds. Occasionally assists lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.

Qualifications include:

Education/certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience: Three years experience in various types of welding and the utilization of welding tools or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Candidates must be able to perform and pass a welding demonstration to assess competency in multiple welding techniques.

Must have or able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).

Must successfully pass a NACI background investigation.

Valid state driver's license required.
