As a Mental Health Counselor, you will be essential in supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of students. You will provide individual and group counseling, collaborate closely with educators, families, and community partners, and contribute to a safe and supportive learning atmosphere.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering individual and group counseling sessions to address various challenges affecting school performance, including crisis intervention when needed.
  • Performing comprehensive interviews with students, families, and school personnel to assess social, emotional, and behavioral adjustments.
  • Maintaining communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and challenges.
  • Developing and managing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans (PBIPs) in line with relevant guidelines.
  • Participating in IEP team meetings, facilitating discussions, and addressing any concerns from parents or teachers.
  • Collaborating with staff and agencies to design and implement student support services.
  • Coordinating case management tasks, including parent meetings and liaising with external therapists.
  • Partnering with educators to identify solutions for academic and behavioral issues and foster a positive environment.
  • Conducting monthly observations in classrooms to ensure consistent application of positive teaching strategies and monitor IEP and PBIP goal achievement.
  • Guiding teachers in scheduling and data management to align with program objectives.
  • Assessing student progress through ongoing data analysis and training staff on effective interventions.
  • Modeling effective communication and problem-solving strategies to promote a collaborative approach.

Qualifications Required:

  • Master's degree or higher in educational counseling, therapy, social work, or a closely related field.
  • Meet all state and district requirements for licensure and credentials.
  • Licensure may include LMFT, LMHC, LPC, LPCC, or LEP.
  • Prior experience in special education and knowledge of its compliance requirements.
  • Experience providing mental health support to children, preferably in educational settings.
  • Familiarity with applied behavior analysis (ABA), including FBAs, PBIS, and BIPs.
  • Success in developing and implementing treatment plans for diverse student needs.
  • Able to engage and motivate students effectively.
  • Capability to respond swiftly in emergencies and make independent decisions.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Excellent communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant technology and basic office equipment.
