Pre-K Teacher
Position Title: Pre-K Teacher
Supervises: Directly supervises Pre-K students assigned to his/her classes.
Job Goal: To create a flexible pre-kindergarten program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth of students; to motivate students to develop communication abilities, attitudes, skills and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further participation in the total school program. To foster the academic growth of each student; to build strong ties between home and school; to establish good relationships with parents, other adults, and staff members.
Qualifications:
- Possess valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate.
- Properly endorsed in Early Childhood Education.
Reports To: School Principal/Director
Salary: To be determined commensurate with local salary matrix, credentials, and experience.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate the work of aides, assistants, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips in order to obtain the maximum benefit from their efforts.
- Develop activities for parents which promote parent participation and involvement in education activities provided for their children.
- Interpret the pre-k school program for parents in order to strengthen parental understanding of the individual student's needs and the school's role in the individual's life.
- Provide appropriate climate to establish and reinforce acceptable student behavior, attitudes, and social skills.
- Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers and exhibits of students' work.
- Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor or Superintendent.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
- Administers subject specific assessment and tests for the purpose of assessing the level of students' competencies.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations, student's achievements, developing methods for improvement, and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
- Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students' parents and administration.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, and achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
- Facilitates preschool student's learning (e.g., art, science, music, housekeeping, story time, movement activities, etc.) for the purpose of improving the student's academic success and transition to elementary school.
- Organizes age appropriate indoor and outdoor activities for the purpose of ensuring student participation in learning activities.
- Participates in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g., grades, attendance, student records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
Terms of Employment: Length of contract and salary will be established by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
