Paraprofessional - Truancy Assistant

To assist the school personnel to ensure compliance with state and local attendance policies.

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Holds at least an Associate Degree or 48 semester hours of coursework or Have a proficient score on the Work Key exam.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license with no prior convictions or violations.
  • Demonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.

Assists the truancy officer in enforcement of state and local attendance policies.

Assist in the gathering and assessment of attendance data.

Assist in monitoring occurrences of extreme absenteeism and unexcused absences.

Assist in analysis of data looking for patterns that indicate a student may be at-risk.

Assist in locating students who are habitually absent from school.

Assist in determining underlying causes of ongoing absences.

Meet with parents and students to discuss attendance issues.

Work with schools and community agencies to implement absence-mitigation strategies.

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the school community.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The contract length may be either nine, ten, eleven, or twelve months, full or part-time. Other employment terms and salary may be established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy and as determined by the Superintendent or the Superintendent's designee.
