SUMMARY

Crown USA, Inc. is searching for a Product Formulator – Traffic Coatings to join their team. This is a new position. The Product Formulator – Traffic Coatings will lead the formulation, development and technical innovation within Crown USA's coatings portfolio of waterborne paints and thermoplastics to include granular and preformed. The role focuses on new product development, raw material qualification, and reformulation of existing products to improve performance, sustainability, and cost efficiency. The Product Formulator requires a blend of scientific acumen, artistic vision, and meticulous attention to detail.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop new coating formulations that meet Crown USA's performance, durability, and cost objectives.
  • Reformulate existing products to enhance performance, sustainability, and manufacturability.
  • Evaluate and qualify alternative raw materials, pigments, and resins.
  • Conduct lab-scale trials, maintain formulation records, and ensure documentation integrity.
  • Partner with Operations to scale formulations for plant production and field deployment.
  • Support product troubleshooting, technical service requests, and process optimization efforts.
  • Stay informed on evolving technology, resin chemistry, and DOT material standards.
  • Evaluate competitor products and suggest improvements for in-house products.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Maintain detailed records of formulations, tests and adjustments.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Collaborate with raw material suppliers to source quality ingredients.
  • Provide technical support to customers and sales teams.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science. Master's degree is a plus.
  • 3 to 5 years of formulation experience in coatings or thermoplastic materials.
  • Strong working knowledge of resins, pigments, fillers, and performance additives.
  • Experience with ASTM and AASHTO test standards for pavement markings preferred.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills with hands-on laboratory capability.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of raw materials used in Crown products.
  • Strong understanding of chemical properties and interactions.
  • Proven ability to develop and improve formulations.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment and testing protocols.
  • Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and testing procedures.


ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position may require up to 20% travel.
  • This is a full-time position, typically Monday through Friday. While weekend work is rare, occasional weekend activity may be required based on business needs.
