Job Summary


Provides leadership, direction, and day?to?day support to ensure the facility meets all applicable food safety laws, federal, state and local regulatory requirements, customer requirements and Golden State Foods standards. Responsible for the continued effectiveness and improvement of the Quality and Food Safety systems and programs in the assigned facility, including development and implementation of new systems in response to changes in business objectives, regulations, GSFs standards and/or customer requirements.


Essential Functions



  • Communicates and oversees the implementation and continual improvement of quality, food safety and regulatory programs to ensure compliance with all customer, governmental (e.g., USDA) and GSF policies.

  • Provides effective leadership and direction to assigned staff, recruiting, training, performance evaluation and building a motivated, effective team to achieve organizational goals for diversity, career development, succession and employee involvement.

  • Directs the Quality Systems team to identify root causes and associated CAPA related to customer concerns and plant non?conformances to prevent reoccurrences.

  • Participates in internal, customer and third?party audits, ensuring the facility is audit ready and adheres to an effective sanitation program.

  • Works directly with customers to understand their needs, concerns and translates those into improvements at the plant level.

  • Works with suppliers to ensure raw material quality meets customers, GSF and regulatory requirements, conducting supplier audits and assessments as needed.

  • Serves as Technical Liaison to Operations & Sales Departments and works with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance to document process changes that will not adversely affect overall stability and performance.

  • Communicates accurate, thorough and timely information regarding quality and/or food safety information to appropriate personnel and analyzes data to distribute professional reports to leadership, USDA and customers as necessary.


Minimum Qualifications



  • BS degree in Engineering, Food Engineering, Food Science, Chemistry, Biological Sciences or related area from an accredited college or university (Masters preferred).

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in food manufacturing or related field with at least 5 years in a USDA regulated facility.

  • Knowledge of food safety programs, food safety regulations, manufacturing and processing concepts, process recovery, CIP sanitation program, quality systems audit concepts and continuous improvement methodology (TPM, Six Sigma).

  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and PowerPoint.

  • Strong communication skills, ability to lead by influencing, facilitative management style and willingness to travel by airplane and drive automobile.
