Position Summary

The Engineer I position is an entry-level role requiring 0-5 years of related experience and an accredited bachelor's degree in engineering. The selected candidate will apply engineering principles, design criteria, and software applications to design and construct power-related systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and construction of power-related systems.
  • Support estimate preparation, develop design options, and prepare construction specifications.
  • Provide guidance, oversight, and quality assurance reviews for approved contractors in the development of design solutions, cost estimates, and construction packages.
  • Promote and ensure a safe work environment by prioritizing safety.
  • Understand the processes involved in planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to facilitate design, construction, and maintenance activities.
  • Apply industry and Southern Company design standards to engineering solutions.
  • Support design standard and criteria development for the system.
  • Assist construction and maintenance teams in daily operations.
  • Estimate materials for projects and manage the transmission of construction packages and specifications.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Foundational engineering knowledge and basic problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to make limited independent decisions based on procedures, with supervisor review.
  • Basic proficiency in discipline-specific software.
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering teams, and vendors.
