Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager

An established and rapidly growing heavy civil contractor is looking for an Assistant Project Manager to support their highway and infrastructure projects within the greater Atlanta area.

No travel out of state, great growth potentialand being a growth-based hire, offers significant career progression toward Project Management.

This role works closely with Project Managers and Superintendents on GDOT public infrastructure projects, supporting both the field and office operations. You'll be hands-on with project coordination, financial tracking, documentation, and field support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
  • Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and DOT inspectors
  • Support scheduling, material tracking, and production planning
  • Handle cost tracking, billing support, and project financials
  • Participate in client meetings and ensure project compliance
  • Work closely with PMs to offload administrative and project controls tasks

Key Requirements:
  • 4-8 years of experience in heavy civil highway/road construction
  • Must have proven, hands-on GDOT experience
  • Ground-up experience with grading, utilities, drainage, and earthwork (paving is subcontracted)
  • A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred but not required)
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office; exposure to HCSS/HeavyBid is a plus
  • Ability to read construction plans and navigate DOT specifications
  • Comfortable with a 50/50 office and field split
