The Grounds Laborer is responsible for maintaining all grounds-related functions for the assigned locations mandated by the PWI contract at FT Benning Base. They will perform the work using the proper combination of motorized and hand-powered equipment. Primary responsibilities will include cuttinggrass, trimming shrubbery, and applying fertilizer and pesticides to maintain a uniform appearance, while exercising safe usage practices with all equipment under the direction of the Supervisor and Project Manager. The Grounds' Laborer will follow directives of the lead and/or grounds supervisor in grounds maintenance; providing aid and assistance when needed in team projects, maintaining equipment by proper use and periodic routine maintenance and repair, providing courteous interaction when encountering customers, and reporting any issues to the supervisor and resolving issues within the jurisdiction of this position. This position is responsible for ensuring quality work is performed in every aspect of grounds maintenance to meet or exceed contract standards.Job Duties* Performs string trimming and edging as directed in a variety of locations.* Must be able to use a backpack blower as directed.* Performs mowing with a push mower as directed.* If approved, mows with a zero-turn ride-on mower.* Ability to complete assigned tasks on time.* Must be knowledgeable of lawn care equipment, their uses, and how to safely operate.* Ensures all assigned tasks are completed according to contract and company specifications.* Ensures equipment is cleaned and stored properly at the end of the shift.* Is responsible for notifying the Lead, Grounds Supervisor, or Project Manager of any problems.* Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and be able to make sound judgment decisions.* Follows proper safety guidelines, procedures, and ensures hazardous working conditions are avoided.* Reports all hazardous working conditions to the Lead and/or Grounds Supervisor immediately.* Promotes safety awareness among team members.* Performs other duties as assigned by the Grounds Supervisor and/or Project Manager.RequirementsEducation and Experience* High School Diploma or GED (preferred)* 6 months of previous experience in grounds maintenance (preferred)Knowledge and Skill Requirements* Ability to apply common-sense understanding* Ability to carry out and follow instructions furnished in both written and oral form* Ability to make sound judgment decisions* Ability to physically tolerate grounds maintenance tasks* Ability to work with equipment safelyLanguage Skills* Ability to read safety rules and instructions for procedures* Ability to record accurate data onto checklists and inspection reports as required* Ability to communicate with customers and PWI staffMathematical SkillsAverage - able to compute, calculate volumes, weights, and measures
