Our client is a major privately owned Power company and a primary energy producer for the state of Georgia with a goal of providing reliable and affordable services across a diverse power generation portfolio.

Location: Atlanta, GA

Summary: The Manager, Retrofit Projects, is responsible for the management of the Retrofit Project portfolio and associated PMO processes, and will manage the retrofit budget portfolio for all retrofit projects. This position will support operations and technical services in managing the processes and procedures for identification of future projects, project execution and associated reporting. It encompasses management of project functions from inception to completion including but not limited to: project development, engineering/design, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and testing of retrofit capital projects that are required at existing fleet.

This position will manage a team that is responsible for developing and tracking budgets, schedules, reporting for senior/executive management on project status, and delivering capital projects for operations fleet and other areas as necessary. This position may also be responsible for managing individual contracts and projects as assigned by the Sr. Director of Capital Projects.

Accountable for developing timely and useful reports, presentations and other communications to convey complex and technical subject matter in clear, concise messaging to multiple levels of internal and external audiences including Sr. Executives, Construction Projects Committee, and the Board. This position will manage the retrofit project program to ensure safety, environmental compliance, budget, schedule and quality goals are met for all retrofit projects. Consults with and serves as subject matter expert representing the Company's interest in retrofit projects and their execution and reporting to the Board and Members as well as Senior Management.

Job Duties

  • Provide program management and leadership to a team of associates to maintain the retrofit projects program. This includes supervision and management of project managers assigned to multiple capital projects at a time.
  • Provide strategic direction and management oversight for the implementation of the Retrofit Projects PMO process and provide leadership and supervision for the assigned PMO Process Project Manager that owns the PMO processes.
  • Assist in negotiating procurement, construction, and consulting contracts as required. Engage as necessary to drive closure to contract dispute resolution.
  • Oversee reporting on all retrofit projects including but not limited to budgets, actuals, and schedules.
  • Coordinate with the appropriate Plant Operations leadership to ensure appropriate participation and effective communication of status, expectations, and responsibilities regarding retrofit projects. Solicit feedback on retrofit project performance from the appropriate Plant Operations leadership to improve retrofit project delivery.
  • Coordinate with the Technical Services organization to provide management and leadership to engineers that are supporting retrofit project development and execution.
  • Manage the project controls function for assigned portfolio of retrofit projects which includes the use of matrixed resources to ensure accurate budgeting, scheduling, estimating, information systems management, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Coordinate with the Capital Projects Project Controls team on reporting required for the retrofit project budget program, including provision of inputs for the Long Range Engineering Plan and Construction Work Plan for all retrofit projects.
  • Prepare routine reports on retrofit projects for senior management and provide briefings as required.

Job Requirements

Education

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering desired but not required; BS in construction management. MBA is a plus. Requisite experience may be considered in lieu of a B.S degree.

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in at major industrial or power projects and/or design of such facilities with increasing levels of responsibility including supervisory experience.

Equivalent Experience

  • 14+ years of experience working at large power plants involving maintenance, capital/retrofit projects, and budget management

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations

  • No special licenses, certifications, or registrations required: however, PE is desirable.

Specialized Skills

  • Must have extensive project management experience, and have work experience in the utility industry possessing a good working knowledge of power plants.
  • Must demonstrate a strong knowledge of project management methodologies with the ability to work with a wide range of individuals including executive management and Board members.
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills in management of department associates.
  • Polished interpersonal skills/ability to effectively interface and influence, and ability to work in a team environment with results-oriented style.
