Description:

This position is responsible for directing the overall activities of the Street Maintenance Division.

Responsibilities:

  • Hires, trains, plans, directs, and supervises operations and activities related to the repairs and maintenance of city streets.
  • Oversees maintenance requests related to complaints, hazards, and repairs of all roads (both city and State), sidewalks, curbs, gutters, inlets, and city fencing, as well as directing the daily routes of the City's fuel truck services.
  • Reviews and responds to Georgia's Department of Transportation regarding inspection reports and requests, shoulders work, and other special projects providing quality city services.
  • Monitors and addresses citizen complaints/requests.
  • Prioritizes work crews and materials daily.
  • Repairs and secures fencing on City property.
  • Supports other divisions as needed.
  • Manages annual contracts by grading performance and issuing specifications of service with materials vendors for asphalt, concrete, fencing, tar sealant, and uniforms.
  • Establishes and monitors safety programs in keeping with industry standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. On-call as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field is required.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years of experience or service.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

  • Knowledge of public administration principles and practices.

  • Skill in operating standard office equipment including work-related computer applications.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Physical Requirements:

The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts heavy objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

  • Standing – for sustained periods of time.
  • Stooping – bending body downward, forward at waist, with full motion of lower extremities and back.

The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
