Shift: 5:00AM - 5:00PM ET Mondays, Tuesdays, & WednesdaysPosition GoalUnder the supervision of the house supervisor, the patient transporter performs duties necessaryto provide safe, courteous, and efficient transport of patients, equipment, supplies, and specimensto and from patient care areas and departments within the hospital. The goal of this position is toassist patients in and out of bed or, using wheelchairs or stretchers, to transport patients from theemergency room to a room, from one room to another, to a specialized area such as Radiology fora procedure, or down to the lobby for checkout. The patient transporter will also assist intransporting surgery patients to Outpatient surgery on the day of surgery, as well as transportingdirect admissions to their assigned rooms.Position Responsibilities:* Identifies self to staff on unit, retrieves patient charts/notes as needed.* Transfer patient from bed to stretcher or wheelchair following proper infection control and bodymechanic procedures.* Ensure appropriate identification of patients before shifting or transporting them.* Notifies patient care staff on receiving unit of patients arrival.* Possess and demonstrate excellent customer service skills as well as excellent interpersonal,organizational and verbal communication skills.* Clean and maintain equipment as needed.* Responsible for performing tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation,knowledge, and permitted by the policies and procedures of JHMH.* Transports equipment and supplies; delivering them to assigned treatment areas and patient careareas.* Cleans stretchers, wheelchairs, etc. according to established infection control guidelines.* Reports repair needs upon discovery.* Moves unused beds, stretchers, wheelchairs and other medical equipment from hallways andother unauthorized areas as needed.* Transports laboratory specimens when needed, by picking up specimens and delivering them tothe laboratory.* Guide hospital visitors and patients families.* Improve patient transport and throughput efficiency throughout the hospital.* Reduce patient transport wait and response time.* Increase patient and clinical staff satisfaction.* Enhance patient safety.* Must maintain knowledge and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to jobdescription such as incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps, linens, PPE exposure, handwashing, and patient identification.* Other duties as assigned.Experience: One year of accumulated experience within the last three years in a comparable job classification; or one year of experience as a nursing care assistant/nurse tech required.Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.Special Qualifications:Required:* BLS certification for healthcare workers required.* Certification must be obtained before transporting a patient without clinical staff.The Hughston Clinic, The Hughston Foundation, The Hughston Surgical Center, Hughston Clinic Orthopaedics, Hughston Medical, Hughston Orthopaedics Trauma, Hughston Orthopaedics Southeast and Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital participate in E-Verify.
